Kaieteur News – The alleged rape of an 11-year-old girl by three boys – two weeks ago – is being investigated by the Guyana Police Force (GPF). This is according to a police investigator.
On Monday, Kaieteur News reported that the 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped by three boys’ at a community center ground, after leaving her home for lessons. The child’s father, during an interview with this publication, expressed dissatisfaction with the way the case is being handled, and accused the GPF of dragging its foot on the matter.
However, when contacted on Wednesday by Kaieteur News an investigator said that members of the Force met with the child’s family and assured that the matter is being investigated.
The investigator told Kaieteur News that the matter involves four minors.
The victim’s father disclosed that he was out doing work on the day his daughter was allegedly raped. “I went doing some work for my friend so I reached home just after 2 (14:00 hours) and I didn’t see my daughter so I asked my mother for her,” he said, adding that his mother informed him that his daughter had left home for lessons.
The man explained that the girl’s lessons are located in the same village where they live.
Kaieteur News understands that boys took the 11-year-old girl to an area at the center ground, where they allegedly raped her. Reports are that a woman, who was taking her daughter to lessons, alerted a security guard and managed to save the girl.
According to the child’s father, after he returned home, he subsequently visited a nearby shop when he was informed of the devastating news.
“I went by the shop around the corner drinking two beers when my sister-in-law called me and said come your daughter get rape,” he told Kaieteur News. He said the security guard at the community center ground had reportedly held the three boys but subsequently released them.
“So I rushed over there, when I reach there the security guard telling me she had to let them go…”
The man said that he was tempted to take matters into his own hands but “had to cool myself down”. The angry father said when he returned to his home he was unable to console his daughter.
“She didn’t tell me what happened she told my mother what they did to her,” he told Kaieteur News while noting that the matter was reported to the police and a medical examination was done.
The angry and frustrated father alleges that since the police report, the matter has been moving at an extremely slow pace. He disclosed that one of the boys who allegedly raped his daughter has relatives who are in the GPF.
“They look like they in on it, like they want to hide what happened to my daughter… all I want is justice for my daughter, I want them boys get send to boys school [New Opportunity Corps (NOC)],” the man added.
He said, “They done prey on my child, I don’t want them to do it to somebody else’s child,” the father said.
The girl’s father told Kaieteur News that he saw one of the alleged rapists who also resides in his village.
“He watching me all scared thinking I would do him something. I didn’t though, I want the law handle it because I have to be around to provide for my daughters,” the man declared.
