– Urges players to work harder as they shift focus to U15 levels
Kaieteur Sports – Following their Bilateral Series win against Trinidad and Tobago, Head Coach of the Guyana U13 team Amir Rahaman, said he wants his players to work even harder as they now shift attention to playing more senior cricket.
Guyana won the 4 match Series 3-0 with the final match being washed out and upon their arrival at the Eugene F Correia International Airport on Wednesday, the Champs along with coaches and manager were all smiles following their win.
Rahaman, during an interview, said, this by far is one of the better Guyana U13 teams with players who he said are more than capable of playing at the U15 and U17 levels.
The coach said the team exhibited high levels of maturity and cricket awareness which played a key role in their dominance throughout the series. He believed that a number of factors contributed to the team’s energy.
One key aspect was the gelling of the players towards the goal of becoming more of a family rather than just a team of players. Rahaman outlined that he along with his coaching staff, they and the players managed to forge a life-long relationship as it will continue to play a crucial role as their careers progress.
Rahaman also lauded the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) and president Bissoondyal Singh for their support prior and during the tour. He noted that the GCB Academies, which were launched in Essequibo, saw a few stars being born as players from across all 3 counties put their hands up in service of their country.
Concluding his interview the coach took some time to thank his players for their contributions and their efforts, urging them to return to their respective clubs and work even harder with new chapter of U15 cricket on the horizon.
The Guyana U13 coach also called on all other coaches from across the respective counties, within the Academies and clubs, to work with these players upon their arrival home. He also urged players to build their relationships with each other outside of the team as they are all on the same path to becoming the next batch of senior Guyana players.
