Kaieteur News – The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Wednesday said that four persons are nursing gunshot wounds after a man dressed in a grey hoodie randomly started shooting at group of persons gathered at B-Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown.
Hospitalized are, Abdool Joshua Kamal, a 32-year-old Welder of ‘A’ Field Sophia, Shellon Collins, a 23-year-old Shopkeeper of ‘B’ Field Sophia, Omale Dick, a 27-year-old Labourer of Lodge Housing Scheme and Quincy Hoyte, a 33-year-old Labourer of ‘B’ Field Sophia.
Kamal was shot to his left shoulder while Collins received a bullet to her left side face. Dick received three bullets to his body: two to the abdomen and one to his left thigh and the fourth victim, Hoyte was struck in his lower back.
The shooting, according to police, took place around 21:30hrs on Tuesday while a group of persons gathered to look at two men fight over dispute between their wives.
Police said that Collins is one of the men’s wives. Collins claimed that the woman identified as Felicia Thom had ‘pelted’ her shop earlier that day. It led to a misunderstanding between them and they both complained to their husbands.
Later that evening, Collins’ husband confronted Thom’s husband and they began fighting. According to police, a crowd gathered around to watch them fight but a lone gunman sent them scattering after he walked towards them, pulled a handgun from his waist and began shooting before running away. Four persons were shot in the process including Collins.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that the shooter was dark in complexion and was about six feet tall. He was at the time dressed in a grey hoodie and red and black pants.
Police were called and found eight 9mm spent shells at the scene. Ranks are currently in pursuit of the suspect.
