Kaieteur News – The American University of Peace Studies Inc. on Wednesday launched a ‘Center of Research and Strategic thinking’ to determine the root causes of a number social issues affecting Guyanese and hindering the country’s development. The launch was held at the university’s location at the corner of Sheriff and Akawini Street, Section K Campbellville, Georgetown.
Speaking at the launch, President of the University, Dr. Eton Simon disclosed that the center will be doing innovative research.
“And this type of research is gonna transform Guyana” he said while adding that it will geared at providing factual data to inform policy making at the government level.
According to Simon, one of the ways the center will be collecting data is through poll sampling survey that will be launched soon.
“We want to know what you think, we want to know what the people are saying so that we have that information from the people, and when we collect that data from the people, we will be able to publish it so you can know our findings and have the information to make critical decisions,” Simon said.
Meanwhile, Senior Lecturer and Administrator of the University, Nadine Ramsaran said the main purpose of the center is to identify the root cause of problems faced in the different sectors and present them to relevant authorities in the government and fix them.

“What our research center will basically do is to find out what is causing the downfall in the health care system, present that to the appropriate persons, and let them fix that,” Ramsaran said.
Health care is not the only issue that the center will be researching but its data collection will also cover, customer service, environmental and economic issues affecting the country.
“When we do get to the underlying problems we will be able to solve the problems,” she added.
Ramsaran noted that the Research Center will also focus too on the root causes behind high incidences of crime as well as fatal accident rates in the country.
The research team will be made up of students from the university and professionals in the research sector.
Once data are collected, the findings will be published on the center’s social media pages and website. Reports will be compiled as well and the Center will seek to regularly engage the press on its findings.
