Digicel Schools’ National Football Championships…
Kaieteur Sports – St. Ignatius, Carmel and Desrey Caesar-Fox Secondary Schools were the first three teams to secure their spot in the semifinal round of the 8th Digicel Schools’ National Football Championship, when the tournament continued yesterday with the quarterfinal round at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Ground.
The last team to complete the final four was the winner of the Waramuri Top versus Santa Rosa battle, which was the last match on the card. However, up to press time, the match had not been completed. Details of this match will be published in tomorrow’s issue.
In yesterday’s first match, Region 9 Champion, St. Ignatius, stormed to victory with a commanding 5 – 1 win over Tucville. Romel Ernest was the star of that show as he produced a hat-trick and was supported by Akon Albert and Morgan Turama as Tucville met ‘the axe’.
The second encounter featured Georgetown’s Champion, Dolphin, in a familiar match-up against fellow GT counterpart, Carmel. However, the day belonged to the latter as they defied the odds to eliminate Dolphin with a 3 – 1 score line.
Usual suspects Ian Daniels, Marcus Layne and Omar Husbands each scored once in Carmel’s triumph to overshadow Dolphin’s consolation effort.
D.C Fox were the penultimate team to become a semifinalists following a dominant 5 – 0 triumph over Charlestown in the third match to send them packing. The one-sided affair saw doubles being scored by Carrington Isaacs and Bevon Jones while Anthonio Isaacs accounted for the other goal.
This means St. Ignatius will face the winner of Waramuri Top versus Santa Rosa while Carmel will take on D.C Fox in the semifinal round. The winners will march on to the finale while the losing team will battle for third.
This edition of the tournament is organised by the Petra Organisation.
