Kaieteur News – Turmeric is a well known ingredient used widely in the Caribbean for variety of reasons. And it does ring a bell in one’s head when they hear turmeric is good for the skin.
Turmeric is rich in antioxidants, including polyphenols, flavonoids, and turmeric-specific antioxidants called curcuminoids that can help protect the skin from free radicals
It contains properties that contribute to a natural glow
Due to antioxidants and anti-inflammatory components turmeric contains, it provides glow and luster to the skin. Turmeric may also revive your skin by bringing out its natural glow.
It can heal wounds
The curcumin found in turmeric can help wounds heal by decreasing inflammation and oxidation. It also lowers the response of your body to cutaneous wounds. This results in your wounds healing more quickly.
Studies had found the positive effect of turmeric on wounds. Turmeric affects tissue and collagen as well.
It helps with acne scarring
The anti-flammotory qualities can target pores and calm the skin so it is suggested that you may want to try a turmeric face mask to help reduce acne and any resulting scars. This combination of uses may help your face clear up from the acne breakouts.
It can help with your psoriasis
The antioxidants and anti-inflammatory qualities of turmeric may help your psoriasis by controlling flares and other symptoms.
According from the National Psoriasis Foundation, it is said that you can use it as a supplement or by adding it to food. However, it is also advisable to discuss proper dosage with a professional.
Method/ remedies that can be done with turmeric:
– Beat egg white until frothy
-Add turmeric and continue to mix well
-Clean the area where the mixture has to go and apply it
-Leave for about 15 minutes and then rinse with water
-Combine turmeric with warm water and honey
-Clean skin
-Apply mixture
-Leave for about 15 – 20 minutes
-Rinse face
-Combine turmeric with yogurt and lemon Juice (for extra nourishment and brightening effects)
Note: for irritation, mix turmeric extract with Aloe Vera gel for natural soothing effects)
