Kaieteur Sports – The Berbice Cricket Board under the presidency of Hilbert Foster will create history when it hosts the Ricky and Son Business Establishment Under 11 Inter Club tournament on Monday, August 7. This would be the first ever Under 11 tournament organized by the BCB and a total of seven clubs have registered to participate.
BCB President Hilbert Foster disclosed that the clubs with Under 11 teams were Achievers, Cotton Tree, Blairmont (West Berbice Zone), Rose Hall Canje, Tucber Park, Mt. Sinai (New Amsterdam/Canje Zone) while arch-rivals Albion and RHTYSC of the Corentyne zone.
The tournament would be played using taped balls and each side would be allowed to bat twenty (20) overs. The BCB would provide the yellow taped balls to teams while the players would be required to be attired in white uniform.
The length of the pitch is to be 18 yards (54 feet) while boundaries should not exceed 50 yards. The cut off date of birth is the 1st of September 2011 and only Berbicians are allowed to play. The first four overs shall be bowled by pacers while the BCB has stated that wides bowled in the first fifteen overs shall not be bowled again and the batting side shall be awarded two runs.
The BCB would provide educational materials to the members of the two finalists. Berbice junior selectors and coaches would be dispatched to the games to select an elite squad of 20 for an elite training project. Chairman of BCB competition committee Leslie Solomon hailed the tournament as another red-letter day in the development of the game in Berbice. Solomon stated that BCB President Hilbert Foster strongly believes in the development of new talents at a young age. He recalled that the BCB has already hosted Under 11 primary school cricket across Berbice and the inter club tournament is the icing on the cake.
