Kaieteur Sports – GT Bannas ended Leguan Warriors’ winning streak last Sunday in the continuation of the 2023 Ontario Masters Softball Cricket Clubs (OMSCC) Over-40, T20 competition at Littles Park, Scarborough.
Leguan Warriors were unbeaten with eight victories but GT Bannas proved their competitiveness to win by four wickets with three balls remaining in thrilling fashion.
Warriors won the toss and opted to take first knock. They reached a moderate 133 all out off 20-overs, while GT Bannas replied with 134-6 triggering wild celebrations by the jubilant GT Bannas players and supporters.
Their effort was spearheaded by opener Bob Chung who hit a responsible 38, while Kevin George also batted with maturity to contribute a vital 33.
The two also participated in a steady, 55-run fourth-wicket stand after GT Bannas lost three early wickets.
Despite the impetus in the bowling department by Leguan Warriors, Chung and George ensured there was no more fuss in the innings. Recently, the former Guyana youth player George struck an impressive, unbeaten 81 to spur GT Bannas to a huge win against Pegasus. In this fixture, the right-hander also showed a great amount of belligerence clobbering four mighty sixes.
Abdool Azeez grabbed three wickets for 14 runs delivering three overs for Leguan Warriors, who remained at the top of the points standing.
Earlier, their innings was built around Faoud Mohamed who stroked a top-score of 26 and Sharaz Hamid with 17.
Veteran player Mark Khan claimed 3-15 from his maximum three overs to leading the bowling for the triumphant unit.
The victory also ticked GT Bannas fourth win from nine encounters but they are at number 5 on the points chart. Captain Mark Alleyne dedicated the memorable win to frontline batsman Abid Ally who picked up a wrist injury and has been ruled out for the season.
Meanwhile, the eight-team competition is slated to resume August 13th with the playoff segment. The championship game will take place August 27th. Carr Tec Masters Sport Club is the reigning champion.
