Kaieteur News – Hunter Biden is the son of sitting US President Joseph Biden. He has been a son of great irresponsibility, much alleged criminality. Yet, he seemingly evaded the law and its punishments because he is Joe Biden’s son. There are few other conclusions left given what he had gotten away with, how long he was allowed to dodge being reeled in by the law, and avoiding the justice owed to the American people. Now his cushy plea deal has fallen apart, and President Biden himself is in the impeachment crosshairs. Coverups do not clean up anything, but conceal for a time only. We hope that the PPP/C Government is paying attention.
Even in America, a society of openness, standards, and many of morals and integrity in high public positions, Hunter Biden ran free, was not answerable for his many tangles with the law. It is fair to assert that an ordinary citizen would not have been afforded the latitude that the younger Biden was given, what now ensnares his father.
For the agreement reached between Hunter Biden and American authorities, that felt like a slap on the wrist, has been junked by a judge. It stands as another finger in the eye of Americans, a rebuke on the Biden machinations. To our regret, it now seems the norm for political figures, their families, and their friends and cronies to be treated in a different manner, with the most delicate of touches, considerable disinterest, and lack of urgency. What is even more regrettable is that this is happening in hallowed America, and involves the son of a sitting president.
Despite America’s fading power, its weakening grip on world affairs, it still remains a force of considerable strength to be reckoned with, the bona fide leader of what is loosely called the free world. It is said that when America sneezes, the world catches cold. By the same measurement, when America stands guilty of lapses at the heights, as exist in the Hunter Biden outrages, then those trickledown to other societies, where the rule of law stumbles. It does not set the kind of clean, consistent standard for other places to follow. Guyana stands as one of those dilapidated places that could do with a facelift and a complete makeover where the rule of law is concerned, and when moral and ethical leadership are the concerns that just would not go away.
When those in government who have a history that is riddled with the dirty and the predatory, or the comprised and corrupt, are condoned, given a free pass, then not much could be claimed as standards, or moral compass. When a mystery man named Sue could be scrutinized for his underpinnings, and not the object of his contentious claims, then this is a society that is in a freefall to the bottom. When serial wrongdoers are shielded from the long arm of the law, then the first shoe has dropped. When the law itself is actually called upon to intervene, and there are serious doubts as to the integrity and unbiased professional nature of its work, then Guyana is rendered shoeless.
Cheaters and tricksters, breakers of the law, are the ones ruling the roost here. Their words are garbled, they hide behind helpful political comrades, and they can always be assured of a choir of loud defenders, who themselves have lost any moral anchor they once may have had, if ever. It is good that a courageous judge in America had the will and spirit to quash the sweet deal worked out by the President’s son, but what about here? If the Hunter Biden escapades could take such a tortured route in America, then what and who is here to give us some hope about fairness and justice?
For the law to be given teeth, and justice to stand on its feet, then it must apply to all, and with the swiftest competency, the fullest potency. America failed in the instance of Hunter Biden because of the heights where his people are stationed, as asserted by whistleblowers. Somebody has got to stand up, step forward, and bell the cat here. Start with the deceivers and misleaders that we have for politicians.
