Kaieteur Sports – As part of its continuous 184th Anniversary Celebrations, Guyana Police Force held a successful night of boxing called ‘Night of Fights’. The activity, which was held at the Police Sports Clubs Ground Eve Leary, saw 11 fights being held.
The night’s activity got on the way shortly after 20:00hrs to a packed audience.
The night’s opening bout saw boxers clashing in the bantamweight category with Joseph Chintaman getting the better of Alex Hazell by a unanimous decision, while Julian Clarke triumphed in his bout against Courtney Lynch.
There was a close contest in the Featherweight Division with Osias Prince and Daniel Harper battling to an exciting draw, while Donovan Richardson defeated Clifton Graham in the Junior Division.
The middle weight division was packed with action as they were four bouts. First off Michael Adam defeated Chris Lewis in the first encounter. Hillman Bovell won from Troy Ridley with Maheen Scott defeating Grenville Harris. In a female encounter, Alesha Jackman and Akeelah Vancooten fought it out to a draw.
Le-Andrea Abrams defeated Tulsie Persaud in a Heavyweight contest.
The final matchup for the night was a Super Heavyweight clash with John Campayne winning against Christopher James.
At the end of the night’s encounters cash incentives and medals were presented to the winners and outstanding participants.
Speaking to the end of the activity, Acting Police Commissioner Clifton Hicken, noted that ‘Night of Fights’ was a great night since all the athletes demonstrated a lot of skills and expertise in the ring. He also thanked the various stakeholders who continued to support the Police. Hicken also lauded the athletes for their participation and urged them to increase their training and remain competitive.
