Kaieteur Sports – After a lengthy absence, all the top cyclists are set to head to Berbice today as cycling action returns to the ancient County with the Flying Ace Cycling Club (FACC) 50-mile road race along the Corentyne highway.
The event which is sponsored by the RaJ and Daughter Motor Bike Shop of Corentyne is being staged in memory of Rajkumar Churaman.
Fireworks are anticipated as most of the country’s top riders are in top form.
The event which is open to all cyclists in Guyana will see the riders moving off from in front of the entity’s establishment at Skeldon, Upper Corentyne Headquarters.
The cyclists will then proceed to its branch at Portuguese Quarters before turning back to finish at its place of origin. Pedal off time is 09:00 hrs.
There will be a number of categories on show with Juveniles and females set to ride half the distance from Portuguese Quarters to Skeldon. They will pedal off at 09:30 hrs.
Prizes will be awarded to the first six finishers, the first three juniors, the first three veterans, the first three juveniles and the first three females. There are also ten prime prizes up for the taking.
The event will be coordinated by cycling coach Randolph Roberts. According to Roberts, cyclists are reminded that they must participate in their club colours. (Samuel Whyte)
