Kaieteur Sports – Experienced middle-order batsman and Canada-based Guyanese Fazil Rasool stroked a brilliant, unbeaten 107 to propel United Cricket Club to a resounding 87-run win against GT Bannas last Sunday when action continued in the 2023 Ontario Masters Softball Cricket Clubs (OMSCC) Over-40, T20 B Division competition.
Playing at Littles Park in Scarborough, the left-handed Rasool’s innings was decorated with 11 sixes and four fours from 68 balls as his team compiled a sufficient 197-3 from the allotment of 20-overs.
GT Bannas replied with 110 all out off 19.1 overs. Damian Kissoon offered a fight with 24 as Jano Panday and Rudy Ramdayal grabbed two wickets apiece, bowling for United Cricket Club.
In this Division, eight teams are participating with Leguan Warriors, the only unbeaten team leading the points table. They have got 48 points from 8 matches while United Cricket Club stands at number 2 with 36 points and Ramblers Cricket Club occupies the number position with 24 points.
Defending champions Carr Tec Masters Sports Club and All-Stars also with 24 points but remain at 4 and 5 respectively due to lower net run rates.
GT Bannas have accumulated 18 points to take the number 6 spot while Pegasus, 12 points, and Helena Sports Club continue to languish at the bottom with only six points.
Meanwhile, the competition is slated to continue on Sunday with four more matches before the Playoff segment begins August 13th. The championship game will take place on August 27th at a venue to be announced.
The next round on Sunday will see United Cricket Club coming up against Leguan Warriors at the same venue while GT Bannas heading to Ashtonbee Park to face up Helena Sports Club.
According to Rasool, who hails from Unity, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, also stated that his maiden hundred in softball cricket was memorable against GT Bannas. He expressed ecstasy and delighted to help his team churn out an excellent victory.
