Kaieteur News – The Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Three on Thursday signed two contracts worth $75,605,530 which would see the extension of the Leonora Secondary School and Bagotville Primary School.
In presence of the Regional Executive Officer, Jagnarine Somwar and Regional Engineer Vaughn Solomon a contract worth $25,789,623 was signed with contractor TMK 2020 Inc. for the works at Leonora Secondary and a $49,815,907 contract was inked with contractor Hoosein Logistics and Supplies for Bagotville school project.
Kaieteur News understands that both projects are being executed so as to accommodate additional students attending the school. The projects would see the construction of another wing to the schools which would include a number of classrooms to house students.
The extension at Leonora is said to take about three months to complete, while at Bagotville the deadline is approximately four months. It was reported that educational facilities are being improved so as to ensure children learn in a comfortable environment and also to address space constraints being faced in some areas across the country.
This year, some $94.4 billion has been budgeted for the education sector with the aim of increasing access for all, across all levels and at world class standards. Out of that, a sum of $12.4 billion has been dedicated towards the construction, rehabilitation, extension, and maintenance of educational facilities.
