Kaieteur Sports – Cycling action returns to Berbice next Sunday, July 30th. The Flying Ace Cycle Club (FACC) of New Amsterdam stages the Rajkumar Churaman Memorial 50 miles cycle road race along the Corentyne highway.
The event which is open to all cyclists in Guyana is sponsored by RaJ and Daughter Motor Bike Shop.
The event begins in front of the entity’s establishment at Skeldon, Upper Corentyne headquarters, then proceed to its branch at Portuguese Quarters before turning back to finish at its place of origin. Starting at 09:00 hrs.
Juveniles and females will ride half the distance from Portuguese Quarters to Skeldon. They will pedal off at 09:30 hrs.
Prizes will be awarded to the first six finishers, the first three juniors, the first three veterans, the first three juveniles and the first three females. There are also ten prime prizes up for the taking.
Coach Randolph Roberts receives the cheque from Anita Churaman, wife of the late Rajkumar ‘Raj’ Churaman
The event will be coordinated by cycling coach Randolph Roberts. According to Roberts, cyclists are reminded that they must participate in their club colours.
Interesting persons are asked to get in touch with Roberts.
A simple presentation ceremony was held at the entity’s Skeldon establishment. The owner’s wife, Anita Churaman, presented the cheques which will cover the cost of the event to coordinator Roberts. (Samuel Whyte)
