Kaieteur News – Morris Jeffrey Enterprise has been awarded a $37M contract to construct a Guyana Water Incorporated Inc. (GWI) office at Mabaruma, Region One.
This is according to the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office which revealed on its website that following the bidding process for the contract, Morris Jeffrey Enterprise won the contract valued at $37,100,800.
Kaieteur News had reported that this project was estimated to cost $43,063,200, and eight contractors had submitted bids for the works.
It was also reported that upon completion GWI would be in a better position to connect with its customers across the region thereby improving customer service and water infrastructure.
Additionally, the company said that the execution of this project will also allow for increased access to clean water, enhanced water systems management, more economic opportunities for Region One residents, and improved health and sanitation of households and buildings in the region.
Back in 2021, at the site of the construction of the $23 million GWI Lethem office, Minister of Housing and Water Collin Croal mentioned that the move to construct regional offices forms part of a bigger plan to consolidate the offices that fall under the purview of the Ministry.
“As you’re aware, GWI has a number of regional offices for which we’re renting…so in the long term, it is intended for us to have permanent regional offices and so we’ll have savings in our operational cost but more importantly, the staff will be comfortable,” he had stated.
