Kaieteur Sports – Left-arm orthodox spinner Dennis Legay churned out a pulsating bowling performance for points-leader Apollo Sports Club on Sunday in the continuation of the 2023 Canadian Commonwealth Cricket Association of Toronto 40-overs competition.
Playing at Norfinch cricket ground, the former Guyana youth player, Legay, finished with 5-17 from 3.4 overs including his second hat-trick of the season and his third five-wicket haul.
Against Team Tigers, Apollo Sports Club surged to a commanding nine-wicket win with a whooping 201 balls remaining. Team Tigers took first strike after winning the toss and were bundled out for an embarrassing 59 in the 17th overs while Apollo Sports Club replied with 61-1.
Apart from Legay’s memorable display, off-spinner and another ex-Guyana youth player Kevin Umroa supported him with 3-23 in his six-over outing.
Only skipper Ismaiel Hussain provided brief resistance with 14 to avoid a total humiliation.
For the rampant Apollo Sports Club, Captain and former Guyana Under-19 batsman Harrienarine Chattergoon hit 25 and Travis Mohamed helped formalized things with an unbeaten 20.
The 14-team round-robin tournament will continue this weekend with a series of matches across the Greater Toronto Area.
Apollo Sports Club will match their skills against defending champions Melbourne Sports Club at Centennial Park, Etobicoke, Ontario on Saturday.
And then on Sunday at Norfinch facility, Team Tigers will be opposing Toronto Invaders Cricket Club.
In regards to the points standing, Apollo Sports Club have got 75 points having chalked up seven wins from eight matches while Melbourne Sports Club
boys are occupying the number 2 spot with 60 points. They won all their six games thus far. Team Tigers won three encounters and struggling at number 8.
