– Bounce back with impressive draw against host Jamaica on opening day of the 2023 RAN c/ship
Kaieteur Sports – The 2023 Rugby America’s North (RAN) Men’s U19 and Women’s U15’s Twelve’s championship got underway yesterday with seven exhilarating matches including one Women’s U15’s match. Guyana, however, opened their campaign at the RAN Men’s U19 twelve’s championship against Bermuda, yesterday at the University of the West Indies, Mona Bowl Campus, Kingston, Jamaica.
The Young Green Machine kicked off their campaign in Group B, amongst Bermuda and host Jamaica. Guyana met with a formidable Bermuda Men’s U19 in their first match at 10:00 hours. But fate had a different plan in store for Guyana, as they were left scoreless while the Bermuda Boys dominated the field. Guyana lost their opening match to Bermuda 48-0.
From the very beginning, the Bermudians demonstrated their superiority in every aspect of the game. Their forwards established a formidable presence, winning the scrums with sheer power and precision. Guyana, despite their best efforts, struggled to gain possession and were repeatedly pushed back, unable to mount a strong offensive.
Bermuda’s backline showcased exceptional coordination and speed. Their fly-half orchestrated their attacking moves flawlessly, passing the ball seamlessly between his teammates to score rapid goals. Bermuda’s well-drilled defensive line prevented any breakthroughs, shutting down the Guyanese attacks before they could gain traction. Despite their valiant efforts, they couldn’t find a way to breach the Bermuda’s impenetrable defence, eventually losing 48-0 to the Bermudians.
They later met with host Jamaica in the latter game of day one, an improved Guyana side held regional powerhouse Jamaica to a goalless draw after that heavy defeat to the Bermudians in their first match. Trinidad and Tobago and Bermuda move into day two with a win and a loss each, USA South and host Jamaica both recorded two wins, while Cayman suffered two defeats on the opening day of the tournament.
Guyana on the other hand is set to play their third match against Trinidad and Tobago at 9:00 hours today, followed by another clash with Bermuda at 17:00 hours on day-two of the 2023 RAN championship.
