Kaieteur News – The Guyana police Force (GPF) on Wednesday announced that DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) testing confirmed that the skeletal remains found in a shallow grave at Madewini, Linden-Soesdyke Highway, belonged to missing police constable, Quincy Lewis.
Detectives had found the remains on April 19 this year, after two suspects reportedly confessed to being part of the policeman’s murder.
They reportedly led investigators to a location where some skeletal remains were found. Police had sent the remains overseas for DNA testing to verify if they were indeed Lewis’.
The force in a statement on Wednesday said, “On completion of the testing process, the results confirmed the remains to be those of Constable Quincy Lewis”.
The two suspects identified as Twenty-five-year-old Shafeek Vernon called “Profit” of Ogle, East Coast Demerara (ECD) and 35-year-old Jamel Van Lewis, of D’Urban Street, Georgetown are presently behind bars on remand for allegedly murdering the policeman.
However, two more suspects allegedly involved, a couple, remain at large. The police force have identified them as Thakurdial Samaroo, 56, of Lot 7 Ogle Front Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD) and his wife Naqueeba Zahid Zafarali also known as “Naqueeba Zafarali” of the same address.
They are implicated as the masterminds in the policeman’s killing and the GPF have issued wanted bulletins for both of them. It is believed that they have fled Guyana and might be hiding out in a neighbouring country.
Kaieteur News had learnt that Lewis was allegedly involved in a romantic relationship with Zafarali and was reportedly lured to the couple’s East Bank Demerara (EBD) home on the day he disappeared. Lewis was allegedly shot at the location and his body then transported to the Madewini Sand Pit area where it was buried. The suspects on remand had claimed that Zafarali’s husband was the one who allegedly shot Lewis dead.
Lewis went missing some three years ago. According to reports, Lewis was last seen alive by his mother, Charlene Jordon, around 17:15hrs on June 19, 2020, after leaving their home at La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD). He left in a silver-grey Toyota Premio motorcar that he borrowed from a friend for work duties at the Agricola Police Station.
Security cameras had captured him crossing over the Demerara Harbour Bridge on June 19, 2020, and heading into Greenfield Park, East Bank Demerara.
Lewis’ car was never found, however, investigators reportedly learnt that his killers had sold it to pay off their debts. Police are looking for the buyer of the car too.
