Kaieteur News – The teen found dead one day after going missing, reportedly died by drowning, at the Bartica Beach, Region Seven, an autopsy revealed.
Thirteen-year-old Daniel Cameron of Kaneville, Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD) went missing on Tuesday. At around 15:30hrs on Thursday, his body floated up about 200 feet from the Fifth Avenue Beach at Bartica.
Speaking with Kaieteur News on Wednesday, his mother, Liloutie Cameron said that autopsy results stated that the teen died from drowning, compounded by blunt trauma to the head. Although drowning killed Cameron, his mother still wants to know how her son sustained a blunt trauma to his head.
It is unclear how Cameron got into the Essequibo River, but a blunt trauma injury could mean that he might have hit his head while plunging in. However, only further investigation could reveal if this was the case.
After spending a week’s vacation at his aunt on the Esseequibo Coast, Region Two, Cameron travelled to Bartica from Supenaam to spend some time with his grandmother.
His uncle picked him up from the Bartica Stelling on the Tuesday but hours later, the child disappeared.
The uncle was questioned by police and he claimed that he had gone the Bartica Regional hospital that afternoon for a malaria test. Cameron reportedly did not want to accompany him into the hospital and requested to wait for him outside.
His uncle said that he left Cameron playing by a swing located in a park opposite the hospital. He returned some 15 minutes later, and Cameron had disappeared.
