Dear Editor,
Guyanese taxpayers need to evaluate whether the frequent overseas trips by the President and his clique will bring the nation adequate returns on these huge sums spent in travelling and room and board expenses. In May of this year, the President was in India with many of his sidekicks; not to be outdone, the honcho and de facto president and the power drunk czar followed suit two weeks later, and as he said to close the deal. Is the honcho and de facto president telling us that the president is incompetent? Earlier, the Head of State was in Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates which was preceded by his attendance of the funeral of the Queen in September a year earlier and a trip to Belize in the same year. Additionally, the First Lady travelled to Singapore merely to smash a bottle of champagne to launch the Lisa Prosperity ship a year ago, while Min. Edghill journeyed to Kolkata, India to see the ship MV MA LISHA– which is yet to make a voyage in Guyana as there are no docks in the Northwest for it to sail. Two weeks ago, the President was dancing in a Mandir in Canada. Many are of the opinion that only he and his cabinet are enjoying the oil resources in Guyana, not the people.
Further, his refusal to confirm the acting appointments of the Chancellor and Chief Justice are as much an abandonment of the President’s constitutional duty as well as his illegal actions to scrap the Police Service Commission and his willful and silly delay not to appoint the Public Service Commission. The Commission of Inquiry into the Madhia fire is yet to shift into gear after more than two months of the horrific tragedy. If only the President could act with some form of alacrity and rectify the problems in the incompetent and clumsy public service, the corrupt police force and his arrogant, egotistical, narcissistic, and inept cabinet, Guyana will be a much better place to live and raise a family. But it will not happen because the vindictive honcho and de facto president who are in charge will not allow him to make any changes.
We also know this is not the President area of influence and capability, as highlighted by how vociferous honcho and de facto president on subjects in regard to the cash grants, and the awarding of contracts to relatives, friends and supporters of the party. This also explains why the rubber stamp president has not given a full press conference since taking office, while journalists are summoned weekly to listen to honcho and de facto president ramble polemics, lies and berating the Opposition, Kaieteur News Publisher, Glenn Lall and anyone who speaks the truth about his dishonesty and his mishandling of the oil industry.
The Mutt and Jeff dynasty has refused to listen to anyone because they believe that God has given them the right to rule over the people of Guyana and to spend the taxpayers’ money among themselves. Nigel Dharamlall alleged rape accusation by a sixteen-year-old Amerindian girl and the refusal by the DPP to charge him clearly indicates that the judiciary has been compromised and is not independent as enunciated in the constitution. It also reveals that there are two systems of justice in Guyana, one for the rich and powerful and the other for the poor and powerless. The people should not take it lying down if the DPP should institute charges against any ordinary person in a rape case or any case based on evidence submitted by the victims, because she has refused to accept the evidence submitted by the Amerindian girl against the alleged rapist. The PPP government is corrupt, deceitful, nasty, and rotten to the core. This is why they are not trusted but are hated by most Guyanese at home and in the diaspora. My sincere hope is for the people to send them packing in 2025. Time will tell. I have four simple words for the so-called President and the honcho and de facto president: Charity begins at home.
Regards,
Leyland Chitlall Roopnaraine
