Kaieteur News – “Growing up I have always been a creative kid looking for ways to express my creativity, so, when I started photography, I realised this is the perfect way to do so.” Many persons take jobs to fulfill their innate desires or their childhood fantasies.
For upcoming Linden photographer Jeffon Figueira, he sought out photography to do so and what started out as a behind the scenes pass time, is now commercialized and he is now becoming a household name in the mining town of Linden for professional photography.
In 2019, Jeffon tagged along with well-known photographer Michael Bonds and he would pitch his ideas to him, but Bonds encouraged him to make use of his own ideas independently.
I did understand because art is subjective but he mentioned “your ideas are very different and creative and you should test the water in the art of photography” and that was the beginning of my journey. With his desire to revolutionize the local photography landscape, Figueira made strides to show his audience that photography is more than capturing memories, but it is a form of art. “I guess it’s my personal demand for change in the way how persons view the art by pushing them into a different scope that teaches them that photography is not about just grabbing a camera/phone and taking a picture, its composition, its emotion but most of all it’s a universal language that speaks to the heart, you can take one moment of life which can become a story frozen in time,” he explained.
During the pandemic he focused on nature photography but now has gravitated towards portraits and event photography. His following is steadily gaining momentum and he is optimistic about becoming one of the best local photographers. He mostly enjoys portrait photography.
In addition to photography, the 26-year-old photographer enjoys doing things differently, travelling and football. In fact, he describes football as his first love. In an effort to perfect his skill, Figueira pursued a certificate at School of the Nations to study the art of photography and graphic design.
