Kaieteur Sports – Seven teams, including defending champions Henrietta United will battle for championship honours when the Essequibo Football Association’s 2023 season kicks into gear today.
The senior Men’s League is the 5th of the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) 9 Regional FAs to kick-off their season. In an invited comment, President of the Essequibo FA, Mervyn Pearson declared: “We are all excited to start this new season and despite the recent persistent rains we are positively confident”.
The one-round League will commence at 2 pm today with the Cup holders confronting Queenstown FC and in the 2nd match set for 4 pm Tapakuma FC clash with Charity Dominators. The 3rd encounter is slated for tomorrow when Good Hope FC meet Dartmouth FC at 4 pm.
All matches will be played at the Anna Regina Multilateral school ground.
Meanwhile, the Rupununi FA (RFA) is serving up another weekend of matches across the 4 sub-districts.
Today in Annai, in Sub-district North there will be matches: 2:30 pm…Surama tackle All Stars Blazers in the ladies category and at 4 pm the men will do battle, 6 pm…Paiwomak ladies come up against Challengers FC before the men contest the night cap at 8 pm.
In the East Central at Nappi, Moco Moco FC take on the Kanuku Warriors. The females will play first at 2 pm afterwards it will be the Males at 3:30 pm.
At Far East ground in Central, Far East United host the defending champions Guyana Rush Saints. At 2:30 pm it will be the ladies and to follow at 4 pm the men clash.
Action at Potarinau in the South Central/Deep South will bring together Shirri FC and Potarinau Sky Kings in the ladies at 2 pm and the men at 3:30 pm.
Four more matches are set for tomorrow (9th July) at the Basin in the North. Three Hills face Strikers at 2:30 pm before the host come up against Spartans at 4 pm in the ladies category. Basin and Spartans then meet in the male category at 6 pm, following on at 8 pm Legends United will take on Falcons FC.
