Kennard Memorial CARICOM Day horserace meet
Kaieteur Sports – Despite the rain that inundated the track, the Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) CARICOM Day horserace meet was successfully held. Although swamped at times, the Bush Lot Farm Corentyne Berbice venue withstood the test as the large crowd was treated to an exhilarating day of racing.
The feature G3 non-winner and lower event was taken by American Traveler of the Tagore Persaud Stable. The animal classified G3 with jockey Colin Ross in the saddles did not get it easy as it was pushed most of the time by second place Republican and the other horses, with jockey Michael Semple astride Republican. The J3 classified animal of the Elcock Stable made a big move up in class to challenge the bigger animals.
Republican, did not disappoint as it dueled neck and neck at times with the winner. Down the homestretch the two animals were barreling down for the finishing line, however it was American Traveler that traveled all the way to take the pole position. Rounding out the top four were Nuclear Fire and Amicable Kate. The win was worth $500,000 and trophy.
Nicholas Patrick was astride Amazing Grace of the Dr Waldron Stable as it took top honours in the J1 and lower race ahead of Republican Too of the Elcock Stable with Cash Return and El Dorado Queen occupying the other places.
Storm Town won the top money in the event for three-year-old maiden horses ahead of Royal Flight, Party Hard and Shake the Bank.
There were no surprises in the event for two-year-old horses as Regal Surprise beat off the likes of She’s a Monica, Love a Dove and Super Quick.
Kings Knight reigned supreme in the rain to win the K&L Non-Earner event taking the top cash from Cash and Carry and Rock Page Harbour.
Wartime was in a no-nonsense mood as it conquered the L class Open race with Princess Samayah, Princess Sasha and Bolt and Nut taking up the minor places.
Among the sponsors were Trophy Stall, Delmur Company Limited, DDL, Patsan Trading, Horse Shoe and Good Wood Racing Services, Dalip Trading, Cyril’s Taxi Services, Mike Pharmacy, Mohammed’s Enterprise among others.
