Dear Editor,
As a Guyanese woman and mother of two girls, it anguished my heart to read about the alleged rape and sodomy of a 16-year-old girl. When I saw her letter to the President of Guyana, it showed her strength as a young lady detailing all her pain to Mr. President. Was happy that she gave a voice to all rape victims.
After her letter was seen in the newspaper, other young ladies spoke out about their rape incident. The court system should prevail and gave justice to that child and the accuser should know they are not above the law.
This has been a norm to our society because of the connection with people in ‘high places’ leaving young ladies scared to speak out. Most rape victims suffer with mental illness until their last breath. Justice for the 16-year-old child would give her mind a relief. It will also be an eye-opening for other rape victims and educating them that no one is about the law.
