Impressive wins from Kwakwani, LTI, SGC, Christianburg, President College Boys, Girls
Kaieteur Sports – The ExxonMobil/Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) Boys and Girls Under-18 National Schools Basketball Festival (NSBF) continued on Monday at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue. Day three was an action-packed fixture with eight exciting matches; the Boy’s division saw Bishop’s High School, Kwakwani Secondary, Linden Technical Institute, Saints Stanislaus College and Christianburg Secondary emerging victorious, while School Girls Combined and President’s College (PC) dominated the Girl’s division. PC Boy’s also commanded a 10-point win over Christ Church Secondary to sum up another thrilling day of high school basketball.
Highlights of Day Three
The Girl’s started off a bit slow, in a low-scoring match between President’s College (PC) B-team and Marian Academy, where PC held a slight lead against Marian Academy to emerge victorious with a nail-biting finish; PC won 9-8 score. Shania Noble was instrumental for PC, contributing four points, including three rebounds, while Stephanna Perry added three points to secure the win. Angel Ramjaram of Marian Academy performed admirably, scoring all eight points for her team, including three rebounds. While School Girls Combined (SGC) dominated Charlestown Secondary with a massive 25-point victory. Kassidy Woolford stood out with 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Talya Gray contributed 7 points and 7 rebounds. The game ended 25-0 in favour of SGC.

Moving on to the Boys division, Bishops’ High School (BHS) defeated Queens College (QC) by nine points, with BHS scoring 39 points and QC finishing with 30 points after four quarters. Mattias Arrindell of BHS led the team with 18 points and 7 rebounds, while Daniel Bailey added 9 points and 12 rebounds to maintain the lead for BHS. François Myers scored 11 points and Owen Hooper contributed 10 points and 6 rebounds for QC in a losing effort.
The Kwakwani Secondary boys displayed an impressive performance, securing a 14-point victory over Mahaicony Technical Institute (MTI), with a final score of 45-31. Kelon Phillips led Kwakwani’s run with 16 points and 9 rebounds, and Kassim English added 15 points. Nahum Rigby of MTI finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Regional powerhouse President’s College boys continued their winning streak against Christ Church Secondary, winning the game 33-22. Judah Ferreira scored 10 points and Ezekiel Saul contributed 9 points for PC. Trayon Grenville stood out for Christ Church Secondary with 19 points and 6 rebounds.
Linden Technical Institute later dominated Tutorial High School, securing a 34-6 victory. Jemol Semple scored 16 points and 5 rebounds, while Leany Baker added 6 points and 9 rebounds. Shortly after that, Regional Conference champions Saints Stanislaus College extended their impressive run with a commanding 38-11 win over Vryman’s Ervin Secondary. Saints had top performances from Brandon McKoy with 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 steals, as well as Alafin Joseph with 8 points and 5 rebounds. Nohoj Baird of Vryman’s Ervin finished with 9 points and 5 rebounds.
In the final game of the day, Christianburg Secondary defeated Marian Academy Boy’s with a score of 48-38. Keishawn Kitt scored 20 points and had 5 rebounds for Christianburg, while Teishawn Kitt contributed 16 points and 8 rebounds. Jaden Simon and Marion Fiedtkou finished with 21 points and 10 points, respectively for Marian in a losing effort.
Day four action continued yesterday at the same venue. The tournament is sponsored by ExxonMobil, with support from National Sports Commission, Edward B Beharry, and G-Boats GY.
