Kaieteur News – The 29-year-old fisherman, who reportedly beat his wife Bibi Naseefa Baksh, 48, to death on Sunday was on Monday morning arrested by the police.
The suspect, Shivnanad Henry of Lot 33 De Groot-en-Klyne, West Coast Demerara (WCD) is presently in police custody where the investigation is ongoing. Kaieteur News was told that Henry admitted to investigators that he gave Baksh several slaps but denied using the wood to lash her. He said that he only used the wood to lash the woman’s daughter.
This publication understands that he also acknowledged that he was aware of her being dead, and had left the house when he made the discovery. Kaieteur News had reported that Baksh died sometime around 05:30hrs at her Uitvlugt, WCD residence. It was reported that the couple’s relationship was filled with domestic issues that led to frequent fights and quarrels. On Sunday, one of their fights ended deadly.
The couple reportedly started arguing with each other during a drinking session around 04:30hrs on Sunday. It escalated and Baksh’s husband started beating her in front of her mother and 12-year-old daughter. It is alleged that the man kicked her down a flight of stairs and reportedly kicked, cuffed, and dealt lashes to her body with a piece of wood.
After beating her, he assisted the woman back into the house with the help of her daughter. Baksh went to bed but never woke up. Seeing her mother motionless on the bed, the 12-year-old child raised an alarm and the police were called in. The fisherman reportedly left the house before they came. When police arrived at their residence, the police reported that her body bore multiple marks of violence including abrasions to her forehead, shoulder, arms and knees. They took her the Leonora Cottage Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead officially.
