Dear Editor,
Guyanese, in and out of Guyana, are fuming that the complainant does not wish to pursue the matter in relation to the allegations against PPP/C Government Minister Nigel Dharmalall and are asking on what basis did the complainant, a minor, withdraw the charges against Government Minister Nigel Dharamlall?
The complainant is a minor susceptible to adult influence/coercion. And, in her emotional state would be class as vulnerable.
Was pressure (financial or otherwise) applied to the complainant?
At all times the complainant, being a minor, needed to have her legal guardian or legal representative with her because of her being susceptible to adult influence/coercion.
For justice to be done, Nigel Dharamlall needs to be charged and tried so the original allegations/charges stand.
While Nigel Dharamlall is innocent until proven guilty, he is not beating a rap because pressure (financial or otherwise) was applied to a minor to get her to change her mind. The case needs to go to Court.
Point to note: should President Irfaan Ali fire Nigel Dharamlall then this would only be a PR stunt to make the PPP/C look good. And, I don’t see what firing Nigel Dharamlall achieves.
This case needs to go to Court.
Sincerely,
Sean Ori
