Kaieteur News – Charismatic television and radio personality Mr. Frederick Rampersaud is closing in on three decades of broadcasting service to Guyana.
Today (July 2, 2023) Mr. Rampersaud celebrates 27 years on television and 22 years as a radio broadcaster. His work on the media platforms has earned him fans in the Region and various parts of the world.
He commemorates his anniversary with lunches, refreshments and giveaways to fans during his live radio show on 89.1FM in front of NTN located on Brickdam, Georgetown. The fun starts at 11:00hours.
During an interview with The Waterfalls, Mr. Rampersaud disclosed that 47 hampers were also presented to La Grange Primary School to aid in their graduation of nursery students.
Mr. Rampersaud has converted his platform on NTN radio to bring fans from several countries together with the fan club growing daily. He has also been involved in several charitable ventures, donating face masks, motor bike, hampers, money, public address system to name a few with strong support from financial assistance from fans and the corporate sponsors of his programme.
His early passion for broadcasting and television programmes had opened opportunities for him to visit several countries including being the master of ceremonies (MC) for Guyana’s 50th Independence celebration in St. Martin.
He reflected that he came a long way with no formal training in the field. But according to Rampersaud, he was always drawn to the radio as a youngster.
“I was very ambitious. I wanted to be a radio announcer, an accountant and a lawyer. I come from a Christian home, my grandfather was a pastor and so on. So public speaking came naturally to me and I started off by hosting pageants such as the Diwali pageant and that is where Mr. CN Sharma and his wife Savitri saw me and gave me my first break.”
Rampersaud recalled that he was so good at the new gig, that within his first six months as a talk show host, he was invited to interview the now-late President Cheddi Jagan at State House for one hour. Subsequently, he travelled to Trinidad, where he also interviewed the first female Attorney General, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, who later became that country’s Prime Minister.
Fast forward, more than two decades later, Mr. Rampersaud, who has hosted several radio programmes, has used his platform to do more than just spread information. He said that through his work as a radio/TV personality, he was able to spearhead notable charitable efforts, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Notably, he has also hosted internet online programmes on Seductive Sounds, Wee Radio online 87.7 FM New York and 100.1 NY live from the United States of America (USA).
Mr. Rampersaud has recently completed his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Guyana (UG) with a 3.3 GPA. To this, he said he hopes to complete his Legal Certification in the near future.
He is hopeful that he will be rewarded and recognized by his country for his contribution to Guyana. Uniquely, Frederick has been paying all 27 years for his programmes on television and radio unlike most in the media who are being paid for their services.
