Kaieteur Sports – It was no sunshine last Saturday at Dixie-407 ground in Brampton, Ontario, due to rain clouds but Sunshine team prevailed by eight wickets against Masters to lift the Ontario Round-Arm Softball Cricket Association (ORSCA)/KP Employment Solutions Inc. “Test” Format trophy.
In hazy conditions, Sunshine won the toss and opted to bowl and it was always going to be a sense of justification by that decision from captain and Canada-based Guyanese Anil Mahadeo as Masters were limited to 52-9 from the 12 allotted overs. Sunshine replied with 87-7 off 12-overs perhaps enjoying a lead of 35.
Masters, in their second innings, rattled up 93 runs from the 12-overs despite losing eight wickets leaving Sunshine to get 59 for victory. They (Sunshine) galloped to the win with 6.1 overs to spare, thanks to Keyon Sinclair for hitting 25.
Scores in the match: Masters 52-9 (12) and 93-8 (12); Sunshine 87-7 (12) and 59-2 (5.5).
Young Sachin Dudnauth demonstrated his immense batting talent with a robust 38 for Masters in the second innings. His knock contained five sixes and a four as Jeetendra Beharry snapped up 3-10 from three tidy overs.
In Sunshine’s first innings appearance, another Guyanese-born Ramiz Mohamed hit a top-score of 27. Captain Mark Nazir claimed 3-17 off two overs.
Khemraj Harrinarain also bowled well for Sunshine with impressive figures of 3-17 off two overs in the initial innings.
Beharry was named player-of-the-match, while Dudnauth copped the prize for being the player-of-the-match for Masters.
At the post-match presentation and award ceremony, Masters Players received a medal each while their team took home a trophy.
For the victorious combination, each player was awarded with a trophy while the Mahadeo collected the champion trophy.
Both Beharry and Dudnauth also were recipients of a trophy apiece for their outstanding performances.
Nazir thanked his team for the commitment of making it to the final and expressed his congratulations to Sunshine for their sterling display.
Mahadeo also echoed similar sentiments and stated that his team played well to reach the final and more importantly performed remarkably against a top team.
President of the ORSCA Mitch Bacchus was on hand to witness the action and congratulated both teams for participating in the final. He made special mention of Sunshine for coming out triumphant as well.
Furthermore, Bacchus took the opportunity to thank Pete Sukhu, the Managing Director of KP/Employment Solutions Inc. for his continued sponsorship.
Executives of the association also came in for high praise from Bacchus for their continued dedication and commitment to help run the affairs of softball cricket.
All the participating teams were also lauded for their continued involvement and highlighted that his association would run off more tournaments very soon.
