Dear Editor,
The video, circulating (GDN June 29) with the minister meeting residents of an ECD village on the planned road expansion project (this should have been done prior to notice being delivered), following a meeting with a high ranking official, depicts clearly the residents are not supportive or enthused by the project. Their general response at best is lackluster and supports the perception that the move to remove vendors has started.
They see the road expansion as disruptive, a nuisance really, to their set and settled way of life and have not bought into the vision that the road expansion is part of the development thrust countrywide. Unless they do, then the project will hit barriers, aided and abetted by forces bent on ensuring the status quo remains the same. Development always comes with this kind of slanted view.
Yours truly,
Shamshun Mohamed
