Kaieteur Sports – The Guyanese team, consisting of defending CARICOM 10K Champion Marlon Nicholson, Winston Missenger, and Attoya Harvey, has departed for Trinidad and Tobago for the event taking place on July 2.
Starting at Pier 1, the 10km race will progress west along the Western Main Road towards the Military Gate at Chaquacabana Beach, before returning east along the same road to the finish line at the Convention Center.
At the 2022 event in Suriname, Nicholson clocked 33 minutes and 25 seconds to win the Men’s event, while Jozeanne Harris of Jamaica was the first female to cross the line, doing so in 44 minutes and 49 seconds.
This year’s 10K marks the 16th edition and serves as a pre-event for the Annual Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government, where CARICOM will celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The inaugural CARICOM 10K was held in 2005 to commemorate the United Nations International Year of Sport and Physical Education. (Rawle Toney)
