Kaieteur News – Prime Minister, Retired Brigadier Mark Phillips on Thursday evening delivered the feature address at United States 247th Independence celebrations hosted by its embassy in Guyana.
The event was held at the Marriot Hotel and attended by foreign diplomats, members of the private sector and members of parliament from both sides of the political divide.
Prime Minister Phillips congratulated the US on its landmark and spoke of working together to improve connectivity in the Guyana’s telecommunication sector.
Meanwhile US Ambassador to Guyana, Sarah-Ann Lynch said that she is grateful that many American businesses have been granted the opportunity to be part of Guyana’s rapid development not only in the oil industry but in other sectors such as education and health.
She also congratulated Guyana for becoming a non-permanent member of the United Nations (UN) Security Council.
“I would also like to congratulate you on becoming one of the newest elected non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council”, the ambassador said.
