Kaieteur News – The National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office has awarded a $51,620,000 contract for the design and supervision service for the construction of the Hosororo Secondary School in Region One.
According to information released on the NPTAB website, the $51 million contract was awarded to GR Engineering Company. This firm will provide design and supervision services for the construction of a modern school building and a dormitory in Hosororo to house 500 students in classroom, 250 pupils in the dormitory and 40 teachers.
Kaieteur News had reported that the Government of Guyana through the Ministry of Education is preparing to build a brand new secondary school at Hosororo which is estimated to cost $2,557,775,186. For that project a total of five contracts have applied for the works.
In addition to the St. George’s High School, St. Mary’s Secondary School, Christ Church Secondary School, North Ruimveldt Secondary School and North West Secondary School which are currently being rebuilt, several other schools will be constructed across the country.
These will be at Hosororo, Kwebana, and Waramuri in Region One (Barima -Waini). Two new schools are being built in Region Three (Essequibo Islands- West Demerara). A secondary school will be built in Orealla, Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne). In Region Seven (Cuyuni- Mazaruni), there will be a school at Jawalla in the Upper Mazaruni. Finally, in Region Eight (Potaro- Siparuni), the dormitories at Paramakatoi and Kato will be extended. Education Minister, Priya Manickchand said recently that the schools are being built with modern specifications and will be offering students the opportunity to pursue subjects which were never offered before in some areas.
