Kaieteur Sports – Yesterday, at a concise presentation ceremony held at Vish’s Pharmacy’s location on 320 New Market and East Streets, the company officially joined as sponsors of the National Under-19 team.
The owner/proprietor of Vish’s Pharmacy handed over a sponsorship cheque to the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) in preparation for the team’s departure to compete at the 2023 Rugby Americas North (RAN) Men’s U19’s and Women’s XVS championship in Jamaica.
The championship is scheduled to commence on July 12th and culminates on July 16th at the University of the West Indies Mona Bowl in Kingston. Pool and round-robin matches will be held on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, featuring 20-minute halves. The Men’s U19 finals on Saturday will consist of 35-minute halves, while the Women’s Finals on Sunday will have their time lengths to be confirmed.
The young Green Machine is scheduled to depart Guyana on July 10th, heading to Jamaica. Guyana will also be among the eleven rugby teams participating in the tournament, they will be in battle among the six Men’s teams vying for the coveted Men’s U19 crown.
With just over a week remaining before the tournament commences, the GRFU is intensifying its preparations for the young rugby players. Additionally, an announcement of a twenty-five member squad is expected early next week, followed by the selection of the final squad that will represent Guyana in this year’s RAN Championship.
