Kaieteur Sports – The inclement weather has begun to play havoc with cricket and with sports in the country. However, hours before the first ball was about to be bowled cricketers and cricket fans alike were greeted with the shocking news that the Guyana Cricket Board had pulled the plug on the competition.
The thunderbolt revelation was carried on the BCB Facebook page in which the GCB was stating that the competition wasn’t sanctioned.
Matches were slated for both East and West Berbice. It would have seen the return to first division cricket by the Berbice River combined team after a long time.
The teams listed to play were, Rose Hall Community Centre (RHCC) in East Canje, Police Cricket Club, Tucber Park Cricket Club of New Amsterdam, Berbice River, Blairmont Community Centre, Upper Corentyne, Young Warriors Cricket Ground (YWCC) West Berbice, Albion Community Centre, Port Mourant Cricket Club, Rose Hall Town and Youth and Sports Club and Skeldon Community Centre Cricket Club.
According to information, the GCB has threatened that any club or player who participates in the competition will be sanctioned which includes suspension among other penalties.
