Kaieteur Sports – Following a five-year hiatus, the Annual Hamilton Green Inter-Ward Invitational Knockout Football Competition is set to make a return on July 16, 2023, at the Georgetown Football ground.
According to Organiser Lennox Arthur, this year’s event will feature thirty- two teams drawn from across different regions in the country.
Arthur, in a recent interview, disclosed that over $1million in prize monies and trophies will be up for grabs with all matches, including the final, scheduled to be played at the GFC ground.
The former national ball weaver and coach said that the winning team will take home $500,000 along with a trophy, while second, third and fourth place finishers will receive $250,000, $150,000 and $100,000 respectively.
Among the teams invited to participate are: Mocha Warriors, Gold is Money, Bourda All Stars, Melanie, Beterverwagting, Timehri, Sophia, Back Circle, Festival City, Pouderoyen, Sparta Boss, Bent Street, Stewartville, Belle West Stars, Den Amstel, Stabroek Ballers, Airy Hall, Victoria, Buxton and Lilliendaal among others.
Six matches are slated to be played on opening day and the matchups are as follows: Tucville go up against Mahaica from 18:00hrs and this will be followed by the clash between BV and Mocha at 18:40hrs.
Road Warriors the tackles Two Friends, while Gold is Money square off against Victoria, before Ann’s Grove and Club 45 lock horns.
In the final fixture of the evening Bourda All Stars play host to Melanie.
All matches will be played for forty minutes duration divided into halves of twenty minutes with the off-side rule not in effect.
The final and third place playoff is set for August 27.
