Oceaneering U14 Boy’s and Girl’s Youth League…
Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) Oceaneering Under-14 Boy’s and Girl’s Indoor Hockey Development League came to an exciting conclusion on Friday at Marian Academy.
The league showcased talented young hockey players in thrilling matches, leading up to the highly anticipated semi-finals and finals, which eventually saw SHC Sensations and YMCA Old Fort being crowned champions in their respective Girl’s and Boy’s division.
In a brief recap of Friday evening matches, the Boy’s semi-finals witnessed intense competition as SHC Minions faced off against GCC Outlaws, with the Minions emerging victorious by a 3-1 scoreline over the Outlaws. While in the other semi-final match, YMCA Old Fort displayed a dominant performance, crushing RISS Blade Runners with an impressive 6-0 win.
Over in the Girl’s division, the semi-finals were equally captivating. CLSS Samurais fought ‘tooth and nail’ against GCC Challengers, which eventually ended 1-0 in favour of the Samurais. In the other semi-final match between SHC Sensations and CLSS Scouts, the Scouts were quieted by the Girls in Blue (Sensations) in a 5-1 loss. Sensation with the win paved the way for an enthralling showdown with the Samurais’’ in the final. The stage was set for the finals, with SHC Sensations and CLSS Samurais in the girls’ division and YMCA Old Fort battling SHC Minions in the boys’ division.
However, the SHC Sensations delivered an outstanding performance in the Girls’ division; defeating the Samurais’’ by a commanding 3-0 scoreline. The goal scorers were Carenza Copeland (5′), Nayanda Balrom (11′), and Arian Khan (16′). Their skills and teamwork propelled them to clinch the girl’s championship title.
In the boys’ final, YMCA Old Fort produced a remarkable comeback victory against SHC Minions. The Minions scored the first goal of the encounter before Micah Smith leveled the score in the 2nd minute. The young Fort’s went on score another four goals to complete a 5-0 victory to take the Boys’ title and also bring the curtain down at the 2023 youth hockey league.
The other goalscorers that featured in the massive comeback victory were Leeman Mohabir (12’), Deon Hole 12’), Alex Sealey (12’) and Jose Rodrigues (16’).
The Oceaneering-sponsored Boy’s and Girl’s U14 Development League concluded with a brief presentation ceremony after the two finals. The GHB also presented trophies and medals to outstanding players. They also presented medals to League’s runners-up and third-place finishers as a recognition for their outstanding performances.
Meanwhile, during the presentation, Makaylah Poole from SHC Sensation was awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the Girls division, while Kayria Scott copped the Most Goals trophy.
For the Boys, GCC Outlaws’ Kyle Couchman pocketed the Boys MVP award while Richard Marques of YMCA Old Fort took the Most Goals award and Jeron Badore was adjudged the most promising boy in the league.
