Kaieteur News – A man wanted in Guyana for a 2006 murder in Bartica, Region Seven was on Friday deported to Guyana from France.
The fugitive, who has been on the run for more than 16 years, is identified as Michael Orlando Currica.
Currica allegedly murdered Ovial Jorric better known as ‘Buns’ at Bartica. To evade the law, Currica departed via a backtrack route at Moleson Creek, Berbice, Region Six to Suriname.
From Suriname, he then travelled to French Guiana where he worked illegally for a number of years before migrating to France.
Currica was employed with a French construction company and worked for a while until he got into trouble with the police there.
According to reports, he was caught with a stolen cell phone. Currica was charged by French police and during his court appearance, he pleaded guilty and was subsequently sentenced to nine years in prison.
On June 21, 2023, he was released and placed in immigration custody and was deported to Guyana.
Upon his arrival at the airport, Guyanese police took him into their custody.
He is expected to appear at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to face a charge for the 2006 murder of Jorric.
