Kaieteur News – Twenty-five-year-old Akeem Lowe of Region Seven was on Friday remanded to prison for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl.
Lowe made his first court appearance on Friday at the Bartica Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Crystal Lambert where he was charged with the offence of Rape of a Child under 16 Years Contrary to Section 10 (3) of the Sexual Offences Act, Chapter 8:03.
After the charge was read to him, Lowe was not required to plea to the indictable charge. He was then remanded to prison and will make his next court appearance on July 4, 2023.
Kaieteur News had reported that the child had told her relatives what had happened to her on June 19. Her parents then made a report to the police the following day.
Police shared that the suspect was arrested following the report made against him and after taking him into custody, he had admitted to the act. Subsequently an investigation was launched.
