Kaieteur News – Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum on Wednesday said that file on the alleged rape of a sixteen-year-old Indigenous girl by Local Government Minister, Nigel Dharamlall will be on the desk of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Shalimar Ali Hack SC. today.
According to Blanhum, the file will contain the official statements taken during the investigation along with other documentary evidence. “The case file containing the report, statements, and other documentary evidence will be forwarded tomorrow (today) to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions”, the Crime Chief said.
The Local Government Minister was arrested on Monday after a school girl made an official report that he had allegedly raped and sodomised her. He has been placed on $1M bail. The allegations sparked several protests as well as public outcry. Dharamlall has since proceeded on administrative leave to facilitate the probe. He has hired prominent attorney-at-law, Nigel Hughes to represent him.
