Kaieteur News – The Guyana Police Force (GPF) is currently preparing a file on the alleged rape of a 16-year-old indigenous girl by Local Government Minister, Nigel Dharamlall, Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum told Kaieteur News on Wednesday.
According to Blanhum, the file will then be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Shalimar Ali Hack, SC.
“Investigators are in the process of preparing the case file to forward it to the DPP for legal advice,” Blanhum said.
The Local Government Minister was arrested on Monday after a school girl made an official report that he had allegedly raped and sodomised her. He has been placed on $1M bail.
The allegations sparked several protests as well as public outcry. Dharamlall has since proceeded on administrative leave to facilitate the probe. He has hired prominent attorney-at-law, Nigel Hughes to represent him.
