Kaieteur News – Twenty-five-year-old Oliver Collins, a motorcyclist of Friendship, East Coast Demerara (E.C.D) was on Saturday night killed in an accident.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) in a statement disclosed that the accident occurred on Friendship Railway Embankment around 20:39 hours. Involved in the accident was the motorcyclist and motorcar PAE 137 driven by a 22-year-old male who was arrested. The police reported that the driver of the motorcar was under the influence of alcohol.
It was reported that the motorcar was proceeding east on the northern driving lane and the motorcycle was proceeding west on the northern driving lane, when the motorcar drove into the path of the motorcycle where a collision occurred causing the motorcyclist to fall onto the road surface.
As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist received injuries about his body. He was picked up by police in an unconscious state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. His body is presently at Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the motorcar which found his alcohol level to be 121% and 112%. He has been detained pending further investigations and charges.
