Firefighter fighting for “Better Days” through music

A local firefighter, Quincy Seon Dillon better known by his stage name, Yellow Marshall, is not only extinguishing fires but also fighting for “Better Days” through music and impactful lyrics.

The 33-year-old firefighter and local dancehall artiste told The Waterfall during a recent interview that while he enjoys working with a hose to save properties and lives, writing impactful lyrics, composing music and singing allows him to expresses himself to deliver inspirational messages to his fellow citizens and the world at large.
One of his most recent songs called “Better Days”, sung to a dancehall rhythm is a perfect example of how Yellow Marshall seeks to uplift and motivate his fellow human beings to keep striving for success.
“Every ghetto youth want see better days when we a work, man wan see better wage, have to mek the money now and nah old age…The struggle is real but we have to fight education is the key but we have to pay the price… to be successful in life it takes sacrifice”, a verse from Yellow Marshall’s “Better Days” says.
Asked what inspired him to write and compose such a motivational song. Marshall said, “Better Days is a song to uplift the youth them in the ghetto. In a low society… everybody has been crying out, a see single moms crying out, a see single fathers crying out, they all want something fuh happen”.

The budding artiste added that he wants the listeners of his songs to know that “we all can achieve better days if we put in the hard work and not give up when obstacles are placed in our path to success”.
Marshall said that Better Days motivates him too that achieving his goal to perform on the big stage in front of thousands of fans is possible.
“Of course, I do want better days for me and my whole team. I have recording music for years and haven’t gotten the breakthrough I dreamt off. I always want to be on the big stage singing in front of thousands of fans, Yellow Marshall told The Waterfall.
The local artiste fell in love from a tender age but started writing lyrics for songs at the age of 12. When he was old enough to save some money for studio time, he started recording songs.
“I Have been recording my songs for fifteen years now”, Marshall said.
During his career that spans more than a decade, the artiste worked with a number of studios; HJ records, Vision Sounds among others.
Some the songs he produced during the early days of his career include, Vanity girls, Something for Ma Brain, Self control, Nature Calling, and We Run the Place.
Two years ago, he met Richie Rich, a local music producer and started working along with him to produce new songs such as “Better Days and Mood”, that are making waves in the country.

According to him Richie has brought the best out of him.
“He always wants the best out of you and it has helped me to keep getting better”, Marshall said.
Apart from music, Marshall said that he is just an ordinary family man who did many odd jobs such as carpentry, selling vegetables and other hustles before becoming a fireman some four years ago.
“I am father of three, two beautiful girls and a boy and I am married to a beautiful wife”, Marshall said.
Apart from friends, colleagues and Fans, added Marshall, “My family has always been my biggest supporter, my eldest daughter would always tell me, ‘Daddy, you are my favourite artiste”.
It is this massive support from his wife and children that motivates Marshall to continue writing more impactful lyrics to fight for ‘Better Days’ not only for himself but his country and fans.
