Kaieteur News – Two men were on Wednesday arrested by police on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD), after they were found with $18.7 million in narcotics in their possession.
According to reports on Wednesday around 17:30 hrs Commander of Regional Division 4 ‘B’, Senior Superintendent Mahendra Singh led a party of policemen in an intelligence-led operation at Republic Park, EBD where the large amount of narcotics was found.
Reports are that a search was conducted in the storage room of a property in Republic Park in the presence of the two men. There, the police found four 45-gallon barrels which contained several bulky plastic bags wrapped with transparent scotch tape.
The parcels when examined, contained a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
While there, police said they observed motorcar PVV 810 which was parked on the bridge in front of the property which was also searched. Ranks discovered a bulky plastic bag containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis in the vehicle.
Police said the men were told of the offence and remained silent. They were arrested and taken to the Diamond Police Station. There the narcotics found in the motorcar was weighted and amounted to 2,900 grams while the narcotics found in the storage room were weighed and amounted to 48,750 grams.
The total street value of the narcotics police said is $18.7M.
An investigation is ongoing.
