Kaieteur Sports – The 2023 ExxonMobil Boys and Girls Under-14 Championships has reached its stage of culmination which takes place today, June 17, at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Ground, Carifesta Avenue, where two new champions will be crowned.
This, the fourth edition of the Petra Organisation-organised event, will see the champion in the two categories claim the championship trophy along with $300,000 towards a school project and bragging rights.
The second, third and fourth place finishers will have to settle for $150,000, $75,000, and $50,000, respectively, all for a school initiative, along with the respective trophy. There is also a number of individual prizes up for grabs.
In the Girls’ Division, the top two teams, Waramuri Top and President’s College, are set to battle for glory in the finale after the third-place showdown that features Tucville and Bartica.
Before that, Marian Academy and New Central High will contest the fifth-place playoff following their triumph over Ann’s Grove and Charlestown, who will contest the seventh-place showdown in the day’s opening fixture.
For the Boys, the top two teams in this edition are Bartica and Waramuri Top, who are set to collide in the final after they both advanced on penalty kicks against Bush Lot and New Central High, who are billed to face-off in the third-place decider.
Christianburg/Wismar and Westminster are locked in to contest the fifth-place showdown while Patentia and Chase’s Academic Foundation kick-off the Boys’ fixture with the seventh-place play-off.
The first two matches begin at noon (12:00h).
This tournament is sanctioned by the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) with support from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), Guyana Shore Base Inc. (GYSBI) and MVP Sports.
