– Says Guyana Team gained tons of experience during recent tourneys
Kaieteur Sports – Guyana/West Indies U-19 Women’s captain Ashmini Munisar said her team has taken a lot of positives away from the recent Regional tournaments, adding that she’s pleased about her current form, but remains dedicated to improving her craft.
The all-rounder told Kaieteur Sports recently that following the end of the CWI Blaze T20 and Women’s Super50 where Guyana’s senior women’s team had mixed fortunes, she and her teammates had gained tons of experience but more importantly, they aim to get back to the drawing board and work hard on their weak areas, while improving on the strong ones.
On a personal note, Munisar had good stats following the end of the CWI Blaze T20, ending as one of the leading wicket-takers. The skipper solidified herself especially with the ball, ending with 6 wickets including a best for 2-8 versus Trinidad and Tobago, prior to taking 1 wicket a game, in the previous 4 played.
Speaking on her current form, the all-rounder said, “I feel good about my current form, mentally I’m in a good place and I’ve been training so in all I feel great. Some of the things I’ve been working on, is trying to be as consistent as possible and not over think situations”, she said.
While Barbados won both Super50 and T20 titles, Guyana who had a Topsy-turvy 50-Overs, then transformed into one of the best teams in the T20’s despite not winning. Guyana finished 2nd place narrowly placed behind the Bajans but tied on 16 points, after both teams won 4 and lost 1 during the 5-match series, with Barbados beating Munisar and her ladies by virtue of a better net run-rate.
Despite this tough loss, Munisar said overall she’s pleased with how her teammates played, citing it as something she’s proud of while acknowledging that they will continue to work towards improvement.
“After the recently concluded regional tournament I think both myself and teammates had a lot to take away from it especially since we were playing amongst and with the best women cricketers in the region. Personally I’ve just been trying to grasp as much as I can from the experienced players and build on that”.
Concluding her interview, Munisar, who had previously named Indian cricket star Virat Kohli as her idol, lauded the work of her coaches, teammates and especially the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), for keeping one eye trained on the continued development of women’s cricket locally and ensuring more young women get opportunities to live their dreams as cricketers.
“I think GCB has done a good job developing and promoting female cricket throughout Guyana. Especially having tournaments like the inter-county and having coaches to work with us. This not only helps to expose new talent, but also promote the sport and motivate girls who are interested in playing the game of cricket,” Munisar ended.
