Kaieteur Sports – Frontline batsman Kumar Debidayal scored an accomplished 113 not out inspiring Kaieteur International Sports Club A to a resounding 112-run win over Highland Creek Cricket Club in the continuation of the Scarborough Cricket Association Elite 50-overs competition last Sunday at Ellesmere Park.
The right-handed, Canada-based Guyanese Debidayal struck nine fours and three sixes to help his team reach a formidable 278-4 from the allotment of 50-overs while Highland Creek Cricket Club only replied with 166 all out in the 43rd over.
Debidayal also got good support from his sibling Julian Debidayal who scored 44 and 33 from Marcus Nandu. Eshan Dass and Nikhil Ponugati contributed 30 and 29 respectively. Kumar, who arrived at the pivotal number 3, occupied the crease for 107 balls and would have featured in several, impressive partnerships.
When Highland Creek Cricket Club batted, Arshan Khan hit a fighting 46 to be the leading scorer while Kush Yadav made 31. Seamer Kishan Anandjit and off-spinner Kevin Ramchand grabbed three wickets apiece and Tyrone Persaud was supportive by taking 2 to be the chief wicket-takers on a responsive pitch.
Kaieteur International had won the toss and without hesitation decided to take first knock. So far, they have got two wins from three outings since the commencement of this year’s edition. The other encounter was abandoned owing to rain.
Meanwhile, the action is slated to continue on Sunday with a series of matches in the eight-team, round-robin tournament. Kaieteur International A will confront Island Warriors at Ashtonbee Park also in Scarborough, while Highland Creek will resume things until June 18th against defending champion Naseeb Cricket Club with Terry Fox Park, the venue.
