Kaieteur News – Two men lost their lives on Monday night in an accident along the Long Creek Public Road, Linden/Soesdyke Highway.
Dead are 22-year-old Shazeer Mohamed and 26-year-old Ryan Boodna both of Long Creek Red Road.
According to police, the accident occurred at about 19:00h Monday night while Mohamed was driving a motorcycle and Boodna was the pillion rider. The accident involved the motorcycle and a motorcar bearing registration number PAD 283 driven by 25-year-old Hubert James of Wismar, Linden.
Reports are that Mohamed and Boodna were on a motorcycle heading south along the eastern side of the Long Creek Public Road while the motorcar was traveling in the same direction but some distance behind.
Police in a statement said that James claimed that the motorcycle which had no rear lights swerved west on the roadway, and upon seeing this, he applied brakes but because of the short distance between the vehicles, his car collided into the back of the motorcycle.
As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist and the pillion rider were flung onto the roadway where they received injuries to their heads and about their bodies. Due to the impact of the hit, the back of the motorcycle was stuck to the front of the car.
The duo was picked up in an unconscious state and placed into a passing vehicle and transported to the Linden Hospital Complex for medical attention. However, upon examination by doctors both Mohamed and Boodna were pronounced dead on arrival.
Their bodies were then removed and taken to the Memorial Funeral Home in Georgetown.
Kaieteur News understands that a breathalyzer test was done on the driver of the car but no trace of alcohol was found in his system. The driver remains in police custody assisting with the investigation.
