Kaieteur Sports – The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) hosted an exciting one-day grass root tournament sponsored by ex-cricketer Arjune Nandu, featuring teams; Port Mourant Cricket Club, Whim, Tain Block Four and the University of Guyana Tain Campus.
In the opening round played this past weekend, PMCC defeated Tain Block four while University got past Whim after national youth batsman Jonathan Rampersaud hit a brilliant 92.
In the final which were played in front of a large and vocal crowd, UG amassed 127 for 9 from 15 overs. G. Seenarine 43, N. Khan 29 and A. Ramsammy 15, the main scorers. M. Budram took 3 for 21 and Joshua Ramsammy 2 for 12.
In reply, Port Mourant achieved victory with one ball to go as fans celebrated when they reached 128 for 6, thanks to the cool hands of national player and skipper Rampertab Ramnauth, who led the way with 66.
For their efforts, the winning team received $40,000 while the runner-up, pocketed GYD$20,000 twenty thousand dollars. BCB president Hilbert Foster expressed congratulations to the teams for outstanding performances during the day and also thanked Nandu.
The former Guyana all-rounder, who hails from Port Mourant, played just a handful of games for his country during the late 80’s into the early 90’s and has been keen on giving back to his county.
