Kaieteur News – A hunting trip at the village of Waicarebe in Barama River, North West District turned fatal last weekend after a man was shot by a fellow hunter in the backlands of the village.
Reports are that Franklin James, said to be in his late 40s, and other villagers were hunting for wild hogs in a remote area of the village called ‘Blackwater’ on Friday last when another hunter aimed his arrow at the animals.
A resident of the area related that James may have walked into the path of the shooter who was aiming his arrow at a group of wild hogs, which the men had cornered. James sustained a deep wound from the blow to his leg.
Reports from the village are that he lost a considerable amount of blood when the arrow was removed from his leg. The man died as his colleagues prepared to rush him to the village’s health centre for treatment. His lifeless body was later taken out to the Kumaka District Hospital at Moruca and a post-mortem examination is expected to be performed on his remains in this week.
Reports from the village are that the victim’s family did not take the news of the shooting lightly. A relative of the victim allegedly threatened the man who fired the arrow which wounded James. The shooter has gone into hiding, a relative noted. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
